This weekend was super eventful. Also, one of the best weekends in a long time. Certainly our first "summer-y" weekend! The weekend started off with a solid hour of fantastic kayaking. My arms were a bit sore from the gym this past week but we got through it. Brenna and Sketchy both made it around the entire island which was amazing given their prior kayaking experiences! Cassie is a kayaking beast -- tried to race her and failed miserably.
i love kayaking. It's still one of my favorite things to do in DC.
Cassie and Sean
tried to get a selfie with folks and monuments in the background.
better/more posed pic of cassie and sean!
sketchy at the beginning. "take the picture take the picture!"
"c'mon, seriously! take the picture, i'm passing you!"
crazy dead floating fish I saw. ooc. And this is why people don't like the potomac lol.
sketchy after he became a master of kayaking.
After kayking, we headed to U street to find a ridiculously long line/wait at Ben's. While I really wanted cheese fries, the majority of the group wasn't feeling waiting around while tour buses of people swarmed the place! We headed out in search of food in the area and settled on Black and Orange (a DC burger place). I had the chicken sandwich (had the turkey burger before and wasn't too happy with the experience) which was AMAZING. Seemed like everyone liked their burger. Afterwards, we grabbed a drink at Standard (the wrought iron gated area that serves bbq and craft beers only open during spring and summer). Can check that off my list!
The day was miserably hot. We headed home with the intention of coming back out again Saturday night, but definitely didn't make it. Instead Sketchy and I had a craft night! Hahaha, yes. Sketchy did crafts and ::whispers:: he liked it.
the materials!
we did stone trivets using dollar store stones and glue gun.
sketchy's final product of which he was very proud!
our final products. =) i actually really like them.
this was some crazy celtic heart knot i saw online. It took 100 times of watching the damn youtube video to get it but I finally did!
this is going to be our 'first home' ornament. I have a smaller picture of the front of our house that we'll use to transfer on to the wood piece. probably put the date we signed on the back. Purchased the little key and teal ribbon. The piece of wood is from a tree from our backyard. =)
you may remember the bottle on the right -- i did that a couple weeks ago. I did bottle number two today. I used jute rope for the second bottle and some lace and ribbon to make a bow.
not sure how i feel about the doily. might do it and put the letter in the middle of the circle. we'll see how it goes when i have the other two bottles done.
two bottles down two to go for my 'life' display under our picture collage wall!
our final products. very successful craft night!
Day 6:
Cabbage, red onions, green peppers, deli chicken breast over spinach topped with ranch dressing and cheese. one more day to go for salad week!
On Sunday we went to that GBD place in dupont. Amazing.
this was really neat. i loved the decor there.

booth was huge and perfect for large group.
this rando girl came around with a shitton of extra donuts just giving them away towards the end of our brunch. lol she was very friendly.
melanie after BoMos.
So the best part of this place is that there are mimosas but also rum punch and specialty random drinks that are also on the bottomless deal and you can change up the drinks! There's also grapefruit mimosas. Very very good situation. We sat there for a solid 3 hours just drinking.
Then we went home, took care of the dogs, changed and headed over to Diana's pool which is a magical place. On our way there we got a flat tire. Poor sketchy changing the tire in that 110 degree weather! I just watched...
first he had to find where to put the jack.
then there was jacking.
and more jacking.
then there was tiring. Sketchy is a hero. =)
After spending quite a few hours at the pool, we headed over to harris teeter to pick up impromptu dinner and watched Bruno grill/cook us dinner at his place. It was such an amazingly relaxing and wonderful day and weekend altogether.
Here's day 7 (WE DID IT!):
chickpea, arugala and spinach, sauteed peppers and onions with a honey/EEO dressing made by Bruno.
we also had these crazy amazing spicy chicken sausages from harris teeter's butcher section thing.
Epic fun summer weekend.
Bottomless rum punch...whaaaat? I want to go to this place next time! lol
ReplyDeleteAnd woohoo for Sketchy being a manly man and fixing the tire
omg yes you would like that place. the rum/alcohol bottomless drinks are really fruity/not strong (i didn't think anyways). food was good too. people are super friendly!
