Saturday we went out to a couple friends' housewarming-of-sorts party. Their place was really classy for three dudes. I was thoroughly impressed. Sketchy and I actually metroed into the city so that we could both drink. Happiness -- no one had to be DD and feel left out! The metro ride was actually not that bad in life. esp going home -- that went by much faster.
Sunday we slept in and then headed over to Scott and Miriam's place for a crab boil. They had steamed crabs which were already seasoned by the international mart they got them from. Then they boiled turkey sausage, potatoes and some awesomely large shrimp. The sausage/shrimp/potatoes were sooo good! There was also corn on the side -- i'm not a corn on the cob fan but sketchy loves it.
they looked so tastey.
shrimp!
we also brought over a variety pack of summer craft beer. i liked three out of four. the three that i did like might actually be in the running for most favorite beer. Really liked the Citra Blonde!
A couple of their friends were passing through DC on their way from Boston to Miami. Nice little pit stop dinner for them. They were super friendly. It was nice to meet some of Scott and Miriam's other friends.
The crab were 'medium' but seemed pretty large to me. They had more meat than they looked like they'd have which was nice! I only got through two.
As we were eating the crabs we were discussing how long it takes to eat just one and how people usually don't get through too many crabs because you either give up and get lazy or because you get full from the beer you're drinking. Then Scott's friend said the best thing ever. "Yes, eating crabs is really just a drinking activity." So so true.
I had been considering a crab/lobster boil party of sorts for when we get our yard complete. After this dinner last night i'm even more excited about it. Sketchy (mr. antiseafood) even liked the crab!
Tonight we went grocery shopping and are trying to make all three meals a day for the rest of the week out of these groceries. We also tried to set a budget. I just like doing things to see if we can. We set a 65.00 budget for groceries this week. We obviously already had some staples in our pantry/fridge so some of our meals will include items not purchased in the 65.00 but the majority of ingredients will be from this grocery trip.
Tonight we had Fish Tacos for dinner. Got sketchy to try fish! I figured if we ate it in some form of a lot of overwhelming flavors he wouldn't even notice it. I thought they were delicious and he agreed that he could not taste the fish so it was a good experience for him too lol. Fish win!
can't find my SD card for camera so these are blurry phone pics. =(
I made our breakfast and lunch for tomorrow.
For breakfast sketchy will have a peanut butter, granola and banana sandwich. I'm having vanilla yogurt with granola. will be a lot of these combos for breakfast or bagels.
For lunch i'm having two fish tacos and some left over refried beans (we had so much left over food!) and sketchy's having a deli roasted chicken sandwich with spinach, avocado, jalapeno, cheddar cheese and chipotle mayo and a side of corn.
special note on the refried beans (seriously the best ever). I got the el paso BLACK BEAN refried beans. Mixed it with half a can of rotec mild diced tomatoes with cilantro in lime juice and half a pack of mild taco seasoning over low heat. Let it simmer for a bit till it was warmed through and a bit thinner. SO good. Served with a tiny sprinkle of mexican blend cheese on top! I'll never make any other kind of refried beans now.

these are the refried beans that were amazing.
I'm going to try to change up the meal everyday despite only having so many ingredients from our 65.00 shopping trip.
If we can make this grocery list work and not purchase any outside food for the whole week that will be pretty damn near incredible. It would break down to about 4.75 a day per person on three meals!
tomorrow's dinner should be a chipotle chicken chili mac topped with frito chips!
some other meals coming this week:
-homemade and watered down fake pho (but with real pho noodles)
-trio mixed pasta with tomato sauce and turkey sausage
-lime cilantro fish with yellow rice and green beans.
