MNF and ATL Prep

Last night's game was cold. Just cold. We got to the parking lot at a good time. DC decided it was time for winter just in time for our 6 hour outdoor event. I realized that after at least 10-15 tailgates, this was my first nighttime tailgate!

Had decided to go light on sides and snacks for the first time ever since i figured we wouldn't tailgate too long. of course the one time i go light on snacks and sides, our grill gives out (WTH). As we're all hungrily trying to figure out what to do, i head over and make friends with some nice older folks (san fran fans) a couple parking spots down. They agreed to let us use their charcoal grill so we packed up our things and moved closer to them.

Once we got settled again things were looking up. We played some games as sketchy grilled the chicken i seasoned the night before for chicken pitas!

tailgate prep sunday night.

We originally were going with Lauren and David but they weren't able to make the game so we sold their season tickets for this game to a co-worker and her boyfriend.

meet old-katie and danny. Old-katie is a co-worker.

sketchy at our seats

so cold. so so cold.

Win for San Fran, so happy sketchy. No Skins fight song (not even ONE TD. sigh), so unhappy Nalini.

Today was my last day at work for the week. We're heading to sketchy's parents tonight, and then off to ATL for the rest of the week for thanksgiving. Celebrating Dero's 40th birthday!!

Happy early Thanksgiving! Monday's post is going to be absurdly long with all the things we have planned for this ATL trip!

Niners v. Skins at FedEx Field (take 2)

Weekend recap, here we go. My company gave each employee a 11-16lb turkey. Since we're going to be out of town I decided to see if Dorsa and Erik needed an extra turkey since they were hosting this year. Dorsa said yes, so Saturday Saturday we stopped by their new house (!!!) in our neighborhood.

They're on the super pretty street. The house is such an amazing forever home. They'll have all the space they need for their 100 children. It's also perfectly updated already but I can tell Dorsa will have fun putting her own touch on little parts of the house. The yard is incredible -- definitely will be crashing bbqs there.

The rest of saturday was shopping for winter-y things for tonight's MNF tailgate and Atlanta for Thanksgiving.

Sunday we put the smoker to work. We went to Whole Foods and got a couple spice rubs. They have really awesome seasonings and the pricing is reasonable.

I got a buffalo mix and sketchy got a hot habenero blend.

we let the wings marinate while the woodchips soaked for about 30 minutes. I ended up doing a set with random seasonings i had in the kitchen.

checkin on them.

2 hours later, deliciousness! smoker success.

Today we had a potluck lunch at work. I made "stuffing balls" from scratch this morning. I didn't think they were too good. Cooking at 7am is evidently not my thing lol.

let the bread dry out for a day.

caramelized red onions with green onions, celery and spices

add caramelized onions mixture, top with cilantro and add chicken stock

mix and then mold into balls

bake

voila.

Aside from my crazytown stuffing balls, the rest of the potluck was super delicious and successful.

one set of foods

second set of foods.

the cutest turkey cupcakes ever. these look like they took a lot of time.

my little spoons of each thing. the "sweet potato thing" above the macaroni was my favorite. New-Katie made it. I'm surprised i liked it given my dislike of sweet things especially sweet potatoes! Glad i tried it though.

And now, finally to get to tonight's plans. After work we're heading off to the MNF Niners v. Skins game at FedEx Field. A couple years ago (2011) I took sketchy to the niners/skins game for his birthday. We had awesome third row seats and I got on TV with my jim harbaugh sign (such a hottie. crazy temper and a little childish, but nonetheless).

parking lot picture. This was the game right after the schwartz/harbaugh handshake debacle. Sketchy's super excited for the game. I'm super tired and ready for a nap.

Happy Monday folks. On the bright side, only two more days til Thanksgiving!

First Work Happy Hour

Tonight Sketchy and I met up with some co-workers for their pretty regular friday happy hour. We went to Capital City Brewery in Shirlington. There weren't particularly good deals and the beers that were on happy hour were their own brews which were nothing special, but they were good. There were no food specials but they had a good variety of appetizers (some seafood items were mixed in there). Sketchy and I just had nachos and I had a couple dark winter-esque beers.

Meet co-worker New-Katie (there's an old Katie too, you'll meet her later). New-Katie has not tried some surprisingly basic and popular items. I kept joking that i'd make a separate section on the blog for "Katie's food adventures."While i missed out on photos for her first bite of guacamole (which she did not like), i did catch her in action at happy hour. I believe she was trying some sort of fish? Maybe tuna? terrible picture quality but you can still see the step-by-step here.

New-Katie Approved.

After happy hour we headed over to Ballston Common to meet up with Misha and Melanie to watch The Delivery Man. <3Vince Vaughn<3 The movie was such a ridiculous plot. It was an alright movie, not vince's best but maybe not his worst either.

the mall was festive with this really large xmas tree!

Can't wait for thanksgiving to be over so it's acceptable to start putting up OOC amounts of festive holiday decor!

Speaking of which, Thanksgiving is so very close. The only thing that makes this Friday even better is that next week is a short week!

Happy weekend everyone!

Early Wedding Present!

Tonight's post was supposed to be on photography which we've figured out and are really happy about.  But instead, tonight's post is on an awesome early wedding gift.

Kaitlin and James sent us wood chips yesterday. I figured that meant a smoker was on its way but wanted to wait to make sure.

this is what we got on Wednesday.

Thursday I walked in to find this at the top of the stairs! I love that Charlie is upset that he can't get around the box to run down to the door.

Super super super excited about this especially because sketchy was really excited about it. He doesn't get too excited about any of our wedding gifts and complains they're all really for me (but they're for the house and kitchen which help him to eat good things!). Anyways, we're going to definitely put this to use ASAP. Kaitlin and James said they wanted to send it a bit early so we can get some use out of it during the rest of football season!

We're planning on doing something with it this weekend, but not sure what to do yet. When we were in FL in Sept James made some smoker wings which were seriously the best wings i had ever had in my life. Hopefully we can replicate those!

Giant thank you to Kaitlin and James for this. They seem to be giving us all our grill things lol. They got us quite a few fun grill items for engagement too!

Wedding Decorations

Tonight i decided to change up the only salad dinner routine. I made some shredded chicken, topped with the tiniest bit of buffalo dressing and made a buffalo chicken salad and a buffalo chicken taco.

Sketchy had a little more appetizing meal. All the taco things:

spicy jack daniels bbq chicken taco and buffalo chicken taco.

Tonight's wedding talk is on decorations. We've been working with the wedding coordinator for quite some time now to nail down exactly what we want for our brown ceremony and reception. Planning via e-mail is really difficult. It's easy in that we can send pictures of everything we'd like to see, but it's tough not sitting down face to face and looking through books/pictures together. We did meet with Alisha (wedding coordinator) when we were in Florida in Sept. She's super sweet and seems to have great vision. Also she's very good with responding to e-mails and being helpful in general. We're doing our flowers, uplighting and general decor with Alisha's design company.

For indian ceremony, we've decided on gold and maroon for the main colors of the decor.  The decorations for the indian ceremony are going to be minimal. Just the items above since it's in a temple and we can't hang items or put chairs in there or anything!

draping like this and actually really like the gold sheer material. Told Alisha maroon and gold draping on the mandap would be good. the one thing we definitely wanted was floral aspect tying back the draping.

we agreed on three trumpet style vases on each side of the aisle leading up to the mandap. there will be rich red and gold swag between the trumpet vases similar to the picture above.

then down the aisle we'll have a floral design like this. colors and flowers and design are left up to alisha!

Now, the fun stuff -- reception!

the walkway into the venue will be lined with these tiki torches. They'll really be pretty once the sunsets.

cocktail tables will look as close to this as possible. this color table linen with nautical rope tying it like this but there will be a silver lantern in the middle instead of flowers.

I've sent bouquets of stargazer lillies (the cascading one that was on the bridal party blog post) and this bouquet:

i love this cream color and the vintage aspect of it. Think it'll go well with the lace/pearl aspect of the theme. alisha said she'll try to combine the two bouquet ideas to form something suitable!

The tables will be pretty simple with pieces of driftwood,  votives, a single black or silver lantern and small chalkboard with table number at the center.

table inspiration pictures

the chalkboards that will have the table numbers (maybe a fun fact or something else on there too)

we'll have quite a few white lanterns throughout the pavilion roof. hopefully it makes the area lighter and brighter.

in addtion, alisha is going to do a grid situation above the sweetheart table (which i think will be amazing for pictures) that will have the lanterns but also vintage/beachy floral pieces draping similar to what you see above. i'm super excited to see how this in particular turns out.

We'll be at a banquet seating white love seat behind a half table and will have two rounds of the groomsmen and bridesmaid to the right and left of us on the elevated platform area (not quite a stage)

we're hoping to have votives like these in the shape of our initials on the sand area where people walk in.

the cake doesn't exactly have a spot yet, will have to figure that out with the vendors the friday before the wedding when we meet and talk layout. but this is what the cake presentation will look like! a blog post will be dedicated to just cake which i think is going to be our most simple item.

There are a few more little odds and ends but generally this is how i'm communicating with our wedding coordinator -- photos.

For the most part, I've got a lot of faith that items can look like this. On the other hand, i'm terrified not knowing how things will turn out!

Bridal Party Outfits

Tonight I went to District Chophouse with Diana. Per tradition, we started the night with a flight. Chophouse has one of the flight situations in the city. Not only is the selection great (9 different in-house brews including at least one seasonal) but it's a fantastic deal. I believe it's about 8.00-10.00 for the entire flight -- I never remember.  We shared a bottle of wine with dinner which was also very tasty. I need to start really remembering the names of wines I get at restaurants.

deliciousness

As I've been on my healthy food kick I didn't exactly get all the wonderful things i usually like from there but the salad i had was actually really good. it was loaded with turkey meat and tons of chickpeas (love chickpeas).

I also tried on my wedding dress tonight. It fit well which makes me super happy.

Bridal Party Outfits for reception:

The girls are wearing teal strapless chiffon dresses with silver beach sandals and will have white and pink bouquets. (fits both the color scheme and the theme)

the actual dress and color

stargazer lillies (pink flowers in the bouquets)

shoes something like this with this shape and color. simple but cute and beachy.

The guys are going to be in grey vest and pants, white dress shirt with rolled up sleeves (to make it even more casual) with teal bowtie (matching color of the dress) and boatshoes to fit the color and beach theme.

rolled up sleeves like this to go with bowtie and boat shoe casual look.

this was the grey we were going for. i think the suit is pretty close. Sketchy will be in a lighter grey or black full suit (with jacket). i like the white sneakers but sketchy liked boat shoes more than white sneakers.

this is the actual bowtie color and hopefully the right grey of the vest (but not shiny)

the guys are also wearing fedoras. so similar to the above and below picture except with bowties.

i like this situation with the matching colors and the boatshoes on the dock. we'll have a sandy beach area and dock as well as boat to use for pictures, so thinking there could be some neat feet pictures with the girls sandals and the guys' boatshoes.

pic like this but on the wooden dock or even near the water's edge.

I think the idea may sound a bit loopy to some but i think once it's all put together especially with our venue and laid back feel it should all look pretty sweet! =)

The brown day outfits are a whole different story but hopefully those turn our properly. The girls will be a teal/green saree with copper designs and the guys will be in copper kurtas.

left is sari and right is kurta

The girls will have a single pink ginger flower as their 'bouquet.' They're long-stemmed, pretty pop of color and simple!

I'm excited for the outfits to be completely done and to see how it all looks on the days of!
